Dispensaries were always designed with one idea in mind, both legally and ideologically: A place where patients recommended by doctors to use cannabis as a medicine can join together as a community, sharing information and knowledge of cannabis to help create a place where they're felt welcome.
Through no fault of their own, most dispensaries instead turn into a convenience store, where patients come in, chat with the budtender for a few minutes, and maybe see some stranger who is buying who knows what strain for who knows what reason. There is little or no sense of community. Some patients just don't have the time to sit around and chat all day. Others feel too intimidated to strike up a conversation with a stranger while buying their medicine. Patients guess a random strain to take home based on a budtender's recommendation (if they even ask for one).
I, for one, find that ridiculous.
During my time as a budtender, I've realized that the patients have much more in common with one another than they realize, and would absolutely benefit from sharing their experiences with the medicine with others. Since no one has hours to spend hanging out in dispensaries, chatting it up with every patient that walks through the door, they need something they can access at any time of the day, be it on a break from work or at 2am in their underpants.
